Engagement Session at Government Cove

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m OBSESSED with the Columbia River Gorge. And although Oregon is home to hundreds of amazing locations, the Gorge might be my favorite of them all.

Located in Cascade Locks, roughly 1 hour outside Portland, you’ll find Government Cove. This little peninsula offers stunning views of both Oregon and Washington, and is especially magical at golden hour. It’s a relatively low traffic area which is perfect if you’re nervous about onlookers during your session.

Please note that this land is privately owned by the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. When visiting Government Cove, it’s crucial to remain respectful to the land and its owners. It’s an undeveloped area offering no facilities (restrooms, trash bins, etc.) and receives little maintenance, so it’s important to take everything out with you when you leave.

There is parking available before the metal gate located at the entrance of the peninsula. You should not drive your car past the metal gate!

When Annika + Sean asked me to photograph their engagement session we decided to do a meet-and-greet over beers. Little did I know how much fun this couple would be! We clicked instantly, and spent the next 3 hours talking and joking like old friends.

The pair recently moved to Portland from Michigan, and wanted to include the beauty of the Pacific Northwest in their photos. Lucky for them I knew the perfect backdrop …

It was a cloudy day in Portland, but the sun started to peek out as soon as we got to the Gorge, creating the most incredible, dramatic light.

We started exploring and somehow found ourselves off-trailing up a VERY steep hill. It was treacherous. I wish I had photos to document that moment, but I was too busy trying not to fall backwards towards my demise. Shoutout to Sean for making sure we made it up the hill in one piece!

I absolutely adore Annika + Sean and I am so honored that they chose me to capture this special time in their lives. I wish them all the happiness in the world!

Are you ready to book your engagement session with me?
